Uganda Martyrs Shrines Namugongo.

The Uganda Martyrs are a group of 22 Catholic and 23 Anglican converts to Christianity in the historical kingdom of Buganda, now part of Uganda, who were executed between 31 January 1885 and 27 January 1887. They were killed on orders of Mwanga II, the reigning Kabaka (King) of Buganda. The deaths took place at a time when there was a religious struggle for political influence in the Buganda Kingdom. This also occurred during the "Scramble for Africa" – the invasion, occupation, division, colonization and annexation of African territory by European powers. A few years after, the English Church Missionary Society used the deaths to enlist wider public support for the British acquisition of Uganda for the British Empire.[5] The Catholic Church beatified the 22 Catholic martyrs of its faith in 1920 and canonized them in 1964.

Kabaka's Man-made Lake.

Kabaka’s Lake is a man-made lake and is believed to be one of the largest of its kind in Africa. The construction of the lake started in 1885 on the orders of Kabaka (King) Mwanga II and the chief foreman was Kaggwa Ndikumulaga. The lake was supposed to be a starting point connecting to Lake Victoria through a man-made channel, however the channel was never dug as the King faced rebellion and conflict from some of the foremen. The lake was used for canoe riding, security purposes and swimming; which King Mwanga II had a strong interest in.
